Amongst the locations selected for the
FTWZs, except for Greater Noida, the remaining
five are ports. This is expected to provide
convenient and effective movement of goods
through the sea, rail or road by offering
the users of the FTWZ a superior infrastructure
enabling efficiencies.
Greater Noida
- Dry port catering to the entire Northern
and Western parts of the country
Kandla
- Port of Kandla serves as a gateway for
the West and North of India.
- The hinterland of the port consists
of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh,
Haryana, Rajasthan, Delhi, Gujarat and
parts of Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.
Mumbai
- Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) is
31st largest container terminal in the
world serving almost 58% of the total
container cargo handled by all major ports
of India.
- Spread over 2500 hectares, JNPT is the
major catalyst for the country's trade
and commerce.
Cochin
- Located on the Willingdon Island and
lies on the East West trade route.
- Closest port to the Grand Container
Trunk Route for exploring the East West
ocean trade.
- Hinterland of the port comprises of
South West and South India, including
Kerala and parts of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
Ennore
- The first landlord port of the country
with private players providing all port
based activities.
- Port is spread over an area of 3500
acres.
- Originally perceived as a satellite
port to the Chennai port, it is now positioned
as an Energy Port with plans of LNG based
power plant, Petrochemical Park and naphtha
cracker plant coming up in the vicinity.
- Covers the trade mechanics of the states
of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka,
Pondicherry and Kerala.
Haldia
- Primarily to cater to increasing trade
and act as catalyst for boosting industrial
growth.
- First modern port project with capability
to handle all types of cargo.
- Caters to the vast hinterland of West
Bengal, Jharkhand, Orissa, Assam, Chattisgarh
and Uttar Pradesh.
